Common questions
Questions we get asked
Coming to a new clinic can raise a few questions, so we have answered the ones we hear most often below. If yours is not here, give us a call or send us a WhatsApp. We are always happy to talk it through.

How to use this page.
If you would rather talk to one of our team, the number is 01702 965 509 and the clinic is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Our front desk team will answer. If it is a clinical question they cannot answer, they will ask one of the clinicians and ring you back.
FAQs
Before you book.
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You can book directly with us and most people do. If we think your GP or a consultant should be involved, we will say so and write to them with your permission.
How soon can I be seen?
Usually the next day or within a few days. We hold appointments back each week for new and acute problems, so if you ring in the morning there is often something that week.
If you can only manage a particular time of day, say so when you ring. We will work around it where we can.
How do I know whether my problem is a physiotherapy problem?
If it involves muscles, joints, tendons or nerves, it usually is. Back and neck pain, shoulders, hips, knees, feet, arthritis, sports injuries and recovery after surgery are all everyday work for us.
If you are not sure, book the Complimentary 15-minute assessment. It is a short appointment with an experienced clinician who will tell you whether physiotherapy is likely to help you, and what might help if it is not.
What happens if physiotherapy is not the right answer?
We tell you. That is better for you than starting a course of treatment that was never going to work.
Depending on what we find, we might point you back to your GP, suggest a consultant opinion, recommend a scan, or tell you plainly that time and a few changes at home will do more than we can. We will be specific about who or what we think you need.
Do you do scans at the clinic?
Yes. We undertake diagnostic ultrasound scans on site. So we can often look at a tendon, muscle or joint in the same building, in the same visit, rather than sending you elsewhere and waiting on a report.
Ultrasound is not the right tool for everything. It is very good for soft tissue and of little use for looking inside a joint or at bone. If you need a different kind of scan, we will tell you.
Who will I see?
One of our expert clinicians. If you have seen one of them before and want to stay with them, let us know when you book. Otherwise, we will put you with whoever suits the problem and the time you have.

FAQs
Your appointments.
How long does an appointment last?
Thirty minutes as standard, including your first appointment. If you would like more time, you can book a 60-minute Platinum session. Some treatments, such as a scan or a shockwave session, run to their own timings and we will explain those before you come.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing that lets us see the area move. Shorts help for a back, hip, knee or ankle problem, and a vest top or something with a wide neck helps for a neck or shoulder. If you are coming straight from work, bring something to change into. There is somewhere to change at the clinic.
Will it hurt?
Testing a sore joint can be uncomfortable for a moment, and some hands-on work is firm. It should never be something you have to grit your teeth through. Tell us and we will change what we are doing.
Some treatments leave you aching for a day or two afterwards. That is normal and it settles on its own. We will warn you when we expect it.
How many appointments will I need?
It varies, and anyone who gives you a number before they have assessed you is guessing. As a rough guide, a recent and straightforward problem often settles between two to six appointments. A long-standing tendon problem or an arthritic joint more often takes between six to ten spread over a few months, with gaps while you get on with the exercises. Some problems need longer than that, and a few need a scan or another opinion before they will shift at all.
You will get an honest estimate after the first assessment and we will review it as we go. We do not book you into a long course at the start.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, always. Bring your partner, a friend, a son or daughter, whoever helps. A second pair of ears is useful when there is a lot to take in, and if you would rather not be examined on your own, say so and we will make sure you are not.
What do I have to do between appointments?
Usually we will prescribe two or three exercises, not a long list. They take a few minutes, and a short set most days does more than a long set once a week.
If something we have given you hurts more than it should, stop it and ring us. Changing the plan is normal and it does not mean anything has gone wrong.
Before you come
What to bring.
None of this is compulsory, but it makes the first appointment more useful.
- Loose clothing you can move in, or shorts and a vest top to change into
- Any scan reports, clinic letters or discharge notes you have been given
- A list of the medication you take, including anything you buy over the counter
- The name of your GP surgery, in case we need to write to them
- Someone with you, if you would rather not come on your own
FAQs
Practicalities.
Where do I park?
There is parking on site at 34A Star Lane just in front of the clinic, so you are not hunting for a space on the road. Give yourself a couple of minutes to walk in and find reception.
Is the clinic accessible?
Yes. There is step free access from the car park to our ground floor treatment rooms. Some rooms are upstairs, so if stairs are difficult, tell us when you book and we will see you on the ground floor. If you have any other worry about getting in, ring before you come.
What if I need to cancel or rearrange?
Ring us on 01702 965 509 and give us at least 48 hours notice of your request to reschedule or cancel an appointment. Appointments are in short supply and somebody else is usually waiting for the one you cannot use.
We know things come up at no notice at all. If that happens, we would much rather you rang and told us than simply did not arrive.
Notice received to reschedule or cancel an appointment less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment will incur payment of the full consultation fee. Exceptions may be made where there is a valid reason, such as illness, an emergency, or other exceptional circumstances, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Can you write to my GP or consultant?
Yes, with your permission. If you are under a consultant, or your GP has asked to be kept informed, we will write with what we found and what we are doing about it. Tell us at the first appointment and we will arrange it.
Ready when you are.
Call or WhatsApp us on 01702 965 509 and we will find a time that suits you.
