The clinic

A small clinic, run by clinicians.

Essex Coast Physio is a private musculoskeletal clinic in Southend-on-Sea. The team is small enough that everybody knows who is on the list, and the decisions about clinical work are made by the people doing it. We are part of Axial Health, a group building a small number of premium musculoskeletal clinics in South-East England. That means there is support behind the clinic without anyone sitting between you and the person in front of you.

Appointments are 30 minutes as standard, which is enough to take a proper history, examine somebody properly and explain what you have found in language they can use. Clinicians tell us that is the thing that feels different here.

The work

Time with patients.

Appointments are 30 minutes as standard, and up to 60 where a first assessment needs it. That is enough to take a proper history, examine somebody properly and explain what you have found in language they can actually use. It is the thing clinicians most often tell us is different here.

We have diagnostic ultrasound on site and a rehabilitation gym in the same building, so a lot of what would be sent elsewhere can be done here. We also offer shockwave therapy, sports massage and group strength sessions. If you want to keep your hands on the work and keep learning, there is room for that.

What the work looks like

  • 30 minute appointments as standard, with 60 minute Platinum sessions
  • A mixed caseload, weighted towards people in their fifties and upwards
  • Diagnostic ultrasound and a rehabilitation gym in the same building
  • Time to write your notes properly, with generous admin breaks between sessions
  • Clinical decisions made by clinicians

Now recruiting

Podiatrist.

Podiatry is coming to Essex Coast Physio. Be the founding podiatrist who builds it, shapes it and leads it.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for a confident, motivated podiatrist who combines strong clinical skills with a genuine interest in building something new.

Essential requirements

  • BSc (Hons) Podiatry or equivalent qualification
  • Current HCPC registration
  • At least two years’ post-qualification experience in the NHS or private practice
  • A sound understanding of lower-limb biomechanics and orthotic therapy
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly, patient-centred approach
  • Professional indemnity insurance, or eligibility to obtain appropriate cover
  • The right to work in the UK and a satisfactory enhanced DBS check

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience in musculoskeletal or sports podiatry
  • Experience of casting or scanning for custom orthoses
  • Experience working alongside physiotherapists or within a multidisciplinary team
  • An interest in service development, business growth or community outreach

Most importantly, you’ll be someone who enjoys taking initiative, values collaboration and is excited by the opportunity to shape a service rather than simply step into an established role.

The practical details

  • Location: Essex Coast Physio, Great Wakering, Southend-on-Sea.
  • Contract: Self-employed.
  • Pay: Competitive session rate, reflecting your experience.
  • Hours: Part-time initially, with the opportunity to increase towards full-time as demand grows.
  • Development: Funded CPD allowance, study time and a genuine route to progress into a Lead Podiatrist role.

We want this to be a collaborative opportunity. You’ll have real influence over how the service develops, with the flexibility to help build a working pattern that suits both you and the needs of our patients.

Ready to build something with us?

We’re looking for someone who sees the potential in this opportunity: a chance to establish a new service, work alongside an experienced physiotherapy team with a steady flow of referrals from our established caseload, and develop a role with genuine scope for progression.

If you’re excited by the idea of becoming our founding podiatrist, we’d love to hear what you could bring to Essex Coast Physio, and what you’d like to build here.

To apply: Email your CV and a brief cover letter to hello@essexcoastphysio.co.uk. Tell us a little about your experience, what interests you about the role and how you’d like to help shape our podiatry service. Help us build something exceptional, from day one.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Enthusiasm for learning, sharing ideas and growing alongside a developing clinic

What you’ll get

  • Guidance and support. Work with and learn from our Clinical Director in a team where asking questions is encouraged
  • Funded CPD and study time. Continuing development is part of how we work
  • Potential for fully funded ultrasound scanning CPD. A real chance to add a high-value skill to your practice
  • Shockwave therapy. Develop your skills with a modality patients increasingly ask for
  • A growing clinic. More patients, more services and more opportunities as we expand, including a new podiatry service for you to work alongside

Who we hear from

The people we are usually interested in.

Beyond the roles above, send us something even when nothing is advertised, particularly if you are one of these.

  • Sports therapists
  • Osteopaths
  • Podiatrists and chiropodists, as we build out general podiatry
  • Sports massage therapists
  • Reception and administrative staff, who in a clinic this size are the first friendly face for people who are often in pain or worried
  • Anyone with a musculoskeletal background who wants to learn diagnostic ultrasound properly

FAQs

Common questions.

How do I send a speculative application?

Send a CV and a short covering note saying what you do, where you are and what you are looking for. Two or three paragraphs is plenty. You can email the clinic or use the contact page, whichever is easier.

If you would rather have a conversation first, ring during opening hours and ask to speak to the clinical director. We will come back to you either way, even when the answer is that there is nothing open.

Do you take newly qualified clinicians?

Yes. A small clinic is a demanding place to start, because the caseload is wide from the first week, but you will not be left on your own with it. Tell us where you are in your training when you write.
